Fears GPs will resist giving drug injectors new antivirals

HEALTHCARE professionals will need to suspend their prejudices towards hepatitis C patients if Australia is to strike a blow against the disease when new direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) go on the PBS on March 1, activists say.

Most of Australia’s 230,000 Hep C patients have been intravenous drug users at some point, says Levinia Crooks, CEO of the Australasian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine (ASHM).
