Demasi's anti-statin crusade continues — and this time she has a point
Dr Maryanne Demasi (PhD) is back in the medical media. She was the ABC science reporter behind two much-derided Catalyst programs that made dark warnings about the health risks of statins.
The programs, broadcast in 2013, were widely panned as fearmongering, with her esteemed ABC colleague Dr Norman Swan claiming patients could die if they ditched their medications.
However, Dr Demasi (pictured) has continued her crusade, writing a review in the British Journal of Sports Medicine declaring doctors are being “misled” about the efficacy and safety of statins.
