Doctor appeals manslaughter conviction
A WEST AUSTRALIAN doctor found guilty of the manslaughter of her abusive husband has lodged an appeal against her conviction.
Chamari Liyanage was acquitted last month of the June 2014 murder of her doctor husband Dinendra Athukorala and instead found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
She was sentenced to four years in jail but with time already served could be eligible for parole as soon as June.
Yet the 36-year-old is not an Australian citizen and is facing deportation at the end of her sentence.
The appeal was lodged on Monday and, if successful,
