GPs given Queen’s Birthday honours

Tasmania’s Dr Brian Bowring was named a Member of the Order of Australia in the General Division (AM).

The honour was bestowed in recognition of his services to rural and regional medicine and to the town of George Town, Tasmania, where he has practised as a GP and VMO at the local hospital for 29 years.

Dr Bowring, who is a member of the Tasmanian Board of the Medical Board of Australia, has also been heavily involved in GP training and has held a range of senior positions, including chairing the Rural Health Education Foundation and General
