Lean mass the key to bone strength

The question of whether muscle or fat has the greater impact on bone strength has been clarified by Australian research showing that lean mass exerts a greater effect on BMD than fat mass.

The finding from a collaboration between  Sydney’s Garvan Institute of Medical Research and Vietnamese researchers affirms the concept that physical activity is an important component in the prevention of bone loss and osteoporosis, the study authors say.
