PBS urged to allow earlier use of gliptins

Clinicians have called for easing of restrictions on newer drugs for type 2 diabetes to allow them to be used earlier and more aggressively in the disease.

A PBS review into the increasing expenditure on type 2 diabetes medicines has been told that current restrictions prevent optimum use of drugs such as gliptins and SGLT2 inhibitors, and their higher costs are offset by benefits in less hypoglycaemia and weight gain.
