PHAA slams claims nuclear dump will benefit medicine

Linking access to cancer treatment to the controversy over the dump was “shameful and misleading”, the Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) said.

“Comments by senior Commonwealth ministers… claiming that a dump is needed in order to have a nuclear medicine industry are a gross manipulation of public sentiment and an attempt to create fear in the community over access to health services,” PHAA spokesperson Clive Rosewarne said.

The Senate this week passed the National Radioactive Waste Management Bill to establish a dump on the Muckaty Station near Tennant Creek.
