Program sells new nurse funding deal
MYTHS will be debunked and opportunities put forward as part of a project to set the record straight about new practice nurse block funding arrangements.
The Australian Practice Nurses Association (APNA) will develop resources to ensure general practice is aware of how the role of the practice nurse changes after 1 January 2012 when the Practice Nurse Incentive Program (PNIP) is introduced.
The program will pay practices $25,000 per full-time equivalent GP to employ a practice nurse, up to a limit of $125,000 per practice.
All current MBS nurse item numbers will be scrapped, with the exception of chronic disease item number 10997.
The PNIP change management support project will comprise a short DVD featuring case studies highlighting the broader opportunities available to practice nurses, online learning programs, fact sheets and a booklet to ensure nurses understand the new funding arrangements.
