Specialist loses battle over patient records

A doctor has failed in a legal bid to force his former practice to hand over thousands of patients’ files after he quit to set up a rival practice based in the same office complex.

Ophthalmologist Dr Kai Goh claimed he needed 30,000-40,000 records of patients he had treated in the 12-year stint he spent with Murdoch Eye Centre in Perth.

Dr Goh asked the WA Supreme Court for an injunction to force the clinic to give him the files before the dispute was formally resolved, claiming patient safety was at risk if he continued to treat the patients without access to the records.
