GP stabbed in apparent murder-suicide

The 46-year-old South African-born GP became a pillar of the Lithgow Valley Medical Practice after settling in the old mining town west of Sydney in 2008 and was known for her strong rapport with patients, practice manager Nikki Baraz told MO.

 “From the day she walked in – she didn’t look at the contract, she was a trusting person – she was a dedicated, lovely doctor, adored and respected by her patients, her colleagues, everyone,” she said.

“She always had a smiling face. She never complained, never had a bad day. She was a hard worker, dedicated mum, the full package.”

Dr Geldenhuys’ two teenage sons awoke to find her unconscious with fatal stab wounds at their Lithgow home on Tuesday morning. The body of her 54-year-old husband was found at a nearby property owned by the family later the same day.
