Medical journal introduces online review editing
READERS will be able to edit systematic reviews on a new Canadian medical publishing website.
Open Medicine, a peer-reviewed, independent, open-access journal, has published a wiki version of a new systematic review of second-line diabetes drugs.
The wiki technology, used by Wikipedia and the controversial WikiLeaks site, allows multiple interlinked web pages to be created and edited by a wide variety of authorised users.
Dr Anita Palepu, editor of Open Medicine, said the journal was the only peer-reviewed medical journal using wikis as a publishing platform.
“Our hope is that this manuscript will evolve as our knowledge evolves and, ultimately, be improved by contributions directly from our readers to our authors,” she said.
The systematic review of diabetes drugs was peer-reviewed before publication “to ensure it satisfied Open Medicine’s editorial standards”.
